Aloke Kumar Basu was one of the pioneers in the establishment, propagation, and development of Oral Medicine in the country. Starting from the 1960s till date, his phenomenal role in the field of dental science has been instrumental in advancing oral care in India to the current standards. Born in 1935, he completed schooling and intermediate education and subsequently went on with graduating in dentistry (BDS) from Rafiuddin Ahmed Dental College & Hospital, Kolkata, in the year 1959. He started off his career as a junior dentist, working under the West Bengal Government. After spending a few years working and learning in various parts of the state, in the year 1965, Dr. A.K. Basu was selected to practice dental medicine and surgery under the most prestigious Central Government organisation, The Indian Railways. This was his first breakthrough and remained so for the next couple of decades, right up to his retirement in 1992. In a majority of these 27 years, he served as Assistant Divisional Medical Officer (ADMO) in different parts of Eastern India including Dhanbad, Asansol and Kanchrapara. His final posting at Baba Ramrik Singh (B.R. Singh) Railway Hospital had a significant impact on his track record since he single-handedly made major improvements in the Dental Department and lead from the front in this endeavour.Dr. Basu holds an unbroken record of retaining the post of President of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) West Bengal State Branch, an esteemed organisation in the field of dentistry, for four consecutive terms. On a national level he was a member of the Central Council of IDA. While at post he also organised several conferences and seminars which speaks of his capabilities as an able manager. Besides his academic and managerial responsibilities, his other contributions, as a life trustee of Spine Research Foundation (SRF), as a major patron of Kombulitola Daridro Bhandar – a charitable clinic, as a trustee of Saraswati Balika Vidyalaya sand Ex-chairman of the governing council of the primary section of Town School Hatibagan, truly identifies his social and communal consciousness.After retiring as Senior Medical Superintendent (MS) from BR Singh Hospital, he took up private practice at many well-known hospitals the major one being Surakha Polyclinic, Kolkata. Dr. Basu, with a flourishing life-long career in dentistry, with heaps of invaluable experience and avid devotion to healing people, especially the under-privileged section of society .

Dedication, determination and dynamic, is what Saumyajit Basu is all about. Dr. Basu is one of the most distinguished and acclaimed spine surgeons in the country, having performed nearly ten thousand surgeries over the last 20 years. He stands out to be one of the world's foremost leaders today, in terms of both the quality as well as the volume of his surgical and academic work. He has practiced complex spinal deformity and disability surgery at Park Clinic, Kolkata from 2000 to 2018. By virtue of able and energetic leadership, he currently serves as the Head of the Department of Spine Surgery & the director of the coveted ASSI Spine fellowship and Fellowship of National Board (FNB- Spine) at Kothari Medical Centre, Kolkata. Along with that Dr. Basu is the director & lead spine surgeon of the Spine Foundation. He has a prolific devotion to spinal deformity surgeries like scoliosis, kyphosis, flat-back syndrome, other major spinal imbalances and related spinal deformities and complex spinal pathologies in both paediatric and adult patients.

As a reflection of his pre-eminent research skills, Dr. Basu commits to numerous academic projects and has to his credit several scientific publications, and chapters in books and journals. He is affiliated with highly esteemed organisations like “Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI)” and “The Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)”. He is regularly an invited speaker in domestic and international scientific and professional meetings.

Born in 1968, he completed high school from Calcutta Boys School, Kolkata. After earning his undergraduate degree from Calcutta Medical College, and his post-graduate degree (MS) in orthopaedic surgery from R.G Kar Medical College, University of Calcutta; soon he got certified as a Diplomat of the National Board (DNB – Orthopaedics), he then went abroad and pursued the prestigious fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Edinburgh. To cite a few of his innumerable academic accomplishments, he was awarded the Sailen Sen Gold Medal in General Medicine in 1992, university rank 2nd in MBBS in 1992, university rank 1st in General Medicine in 1992, University topper in MS (Ortho) in 1997, President's Gold Medal in Orthopaedics in 1997, Siliguri Award for the Best Paper in WBOACON in 1999; he served as a DePuy ASSI Spinal Fellow in 2003, AOSpine short-term fellowship, Nottingham in 2007; he received an SRS Global Outreach Programme Education Scholarship in 2004.

Dr. Basu holds above all the solemn goal of alleviating pain and misery from the society, especially the ones who are economically weak and needy. He is presently associated with the Spine Research Foundation (SRF), a non-profit charitable organisation, as Managing Trustee. Although all patients gain to benefit from seeing Dr. Basu for an evaluation, this is especially true for patients with sophisticated problems such as those with a spinal deformity (for example, scoliosis or kyphosis), multi-level spinal stenosis (i.e., narrowing of the spinal canal), or those who have been told they need an operation. He is singly focused on advancing of care in patients with spinal deformity and continuously evolving methods to improve patient-doctor relationship. He believes that each patient is a unique study and less than five per cent of patients actually need any surgery to get relief from severe pain and disability.

Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi is a highly skilled and experienced Anaesthesiologist with a deep and abiding special interest in complex and long duration surgical procedures of the spine and brain. A National Scholar in Secondary Examination Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi has a brilliant academic career. After graduating from Bankura Sammilani Medical College, Bankura, West Bengal, he did his MD (Anaesthesiology) from M S Ramaiah Medical College, Karnataka..

Always keen in academic activities Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi was an Assistant Professor at Department of Anaesthesiology, M G M Medical College, Kishanganj. He has won Dr. B C Roy Gold Medal in ANEICON 2004 and has to his credit several scientific publications, and chapters in books. He is regularly invited as speaker in national and international scientific and professional meetings.

With an experience of administering anaesthesia for more than fifteen thousand critical surgeries in last twenty years Dr. Trinanjan Sarangi leads the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care of Spine Surgery patients. His other area of interest is Pain Management.

In 1967 he also became an Articled Clerk to a Solicitor of repute Mr. R.C. Deb. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1970. He simultaneously enrolled himself for the LLB Degree Course of the University of Calcutta and obtained the degree. He started his practice from 1970 and now has more than 50 years of experience. He is the senior partner of M/s. Avijit Deb Partners LLP.

He has been practicing in the areas of banking, insurance, arbitration, intellectual property laws, media laws and all kinds of commercial matters. He also has expertise in relation to transactions, commercial documentation and documents relating to properties.

He has been the Secretary of the Incorporated of Law Society of Calcutta and thereafter had also become President of the Society. He has served and continues to serve as a director of several companies both private and public. He has also been and continues to be a Trustee of several private and public trusts in the fields of education, music, cultural affairs as well as charity.

Ms Moumita Ghosh is Master's degree holder in Optometry with 18 years of experience in working in Multi speciality eye hospitals. Her area of specialisation is Paediatric optometry, contact lens, Low Vision and Vision therapy. She has been extensively involved in training of Junior Optometrists and paramedical staffs. Currently she is working as an Optometry Faculty in George College of Management and Science, Makaut. Moumita is also Co-founder and Director Family support & Events of Cure SMA Foundation of India, a parent led PAN India government registered not for profit organization, working for welfare of individuals suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. She is working on raising awareness, building management and care infrastructure and advocacy with different stakeholders about SMA and other Rare Disease in West Bengal and National level.

Dr. Mainak Palit works as a Research Associate in the School of Physical Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata. He received his Ph.D. in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from Centre for Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CRNN), University of Calcutta in 2019. His current research interest lies in Nano-electronic Device Fabrication using different Lithographic techniques, Raman Spectroscopy at extreme conditions (Cryogenic temperature, High magnetic field and High pressure) and Electron Microscopy. Ever since he graduated with Statistics from St. Xavier’s College, Calcutta, he has been associated with different agencies and organizations as a research consultant. He has been consulting with the Spine Research Foundation since 2014.
